Save Money With A Travel Printer

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Business travelers often carry their laptop on every trip. Many times on these trips, the business person will need to make prints of materials from those computers. Since you cannot always be guaranteed that you will have access to a printer at your hotel or place you are doing business, the prepared traveler will bring his own travel printer.

Travel printers need to be small and light weight. They must often fit in a brief case or other piece of luggage. They also need to be sturdy to survive the rigors of travel. Because of the likelihood of the printer being damaged on one of their trips, many business people choose the cheapest travel printer that they can find.

A travel printer can solve many problems that travelers face. If documents have inadvertently been left behind, they can be e-mailed and printed at your location. You can attend your meeting being fully prepared and not have to give excuses.

As you consider the printer you will buy, you may want to consider the capacity of the printer. Many of the inexpensive printers will print at the rate of 9 ppm. If you expect to do large volume printing at your destination, you may need a larger capacity, but most travelers find that the slower rate is fine for their use. If you have a need for a large number of copies, you can always visit an overnight copy shop to make the prints quickly.

Inkjet printers tend to be less expensive than laser printers, but laser printers tend to make less expensive prints. Inkjet printers also do not require replacement of expensive drums and cartridges can be picked up at most discount and office supply stores. Today, most travel printers make good quality prints. They are high in resolution and offer both black and color prints.

Alternatives To Standard Printer Recycling

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Everyone knows that you have to recycle your old electronics, and e-waste recycling centers are benefiting in a huge way from this.  There are more of them opening up now than ever, and while this is a great thing, there are some better ways to recycle a printer than by dumping it off at one of these.  I’m definitely not knocking the great service that e-waste recycling centers provide, I just want to offer some alternatives!

The best way to recycle your printer, assuming that it’s in working order, is to give it to someone.  Giving away your printer prevents another new printer from entering a household, and having to be recycled later.  While this isn’t the best thing for the economy, it’s a great thing for your karma!  Giving your printer to your little brother or grandpa is the perfect way to recycle it.  You may have to install a new ink cartridge and install it, but it’s a great feeling to know that you helped someone out.

Selling your printer is also a great way to recycle it.  You can sell it on Craigslist or back to its manufacturer.  One of the best ways to recycle an HP printer is to go to their website and have them offer you a few bucks for it.  For newer model printers that are in good shape, they will pay you to mail it back to them!  Even if your printer doesn’t work, or isn’t one of the ones that they pay for, they will still cover your shipping costs for them to recycle it.  I’m sure that they break it down for replacement parts, but that’s still “greener” than having to melt it down to become something else.

Printer recycling is not difficult at all, and the alternatives that I describe in this post will help you get the job done in a way that you might not have already thought of.  With all of the different options, you now have zero excuses to just throw it in the trash!
