What You Need When Looking For Laptops Under $300

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

If you have a tight budget for a laptop, you may be thinking that you don’t have much choice. There really are a lot of laptops under $300 to choose from. You can not afford to not be picky. There are some things that you must have, or at least consider carefully.

RAM or memory will be one of the biggest factors when it comes to usability. If you don’t have enough memory, then every program you open will load slowly. Programs will freeze when you are in the middle of a task. If you open too many programs at once, the laptop will go even slower. No matter what your budget is, whether it is laptops for under 500 dollars or under $300, buy as much memory as you can afford.

The size of the laptop is also a big deal. A 17″ laptop may be able to replace your desktop, but will be a hassle to lug around. But don’t worry, there aren’t that many 17″ laptops for under $300, so you won’t be too tempted with that size. The best way to know if a size will work for you is to test it out. Check out the screen sizes on display at your computer store to see what sizes you are the most comfortable with. Also, check out the laptop cases to see roughly what it will feel like to lug around.

The processor is another factor that must be considered. The average consumer, when looking at a computer, sees the details about the processor and they are gibberish to them. Getting to know how to interpret what is and what isn’t a good processor will be key. Look up what others have said about the processor of your computer. It is a small computer chip with a lot of power and influence over the whole laptop.

Two Varieties Of Touch Screen Laptop Computers

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Touch screen  laptop computers are becoming extremely popular in recent months.  You’ve probably heard a lot about them in the news and in computer magazines.  One thing you may not have read about is that there is a significant difference in the types of touch screen displays that can be shipped with touch screen laptop computers.  One of the touch screens is called a resistive touch screen and the other is called the capacitive touch screen.  These touch screens function quite differently from one another.

A touch screen  that is of the resistive type has two conductive materials that are separated by a tiny air gap.  These to conductive materials are charged with a very small electrical current.  When you touch the touch screen with either your finger or a stylus, one of the conductive surfaces flexes and makes contact with the other.  This contact registers as the completion of an electrical circuit and the computer notes the point that the connection was made as the point that you touched the touch screen.  Resistive touch screens are pressure sensitive.

Now let’s talk about capacitive touch screens.  A capacitive touch screen  is constructed from an insulator material such as glass that is coated with a very thin translucent conductive material.  This conductive material also carries a small electrical current.  When you touch one of these touch screens with your finger, there is a change in capacitance at that point because your finger is also conductive.  The computers controller then makes a note of the exact location where the capacitance changed as the point that you touched the screen.  You should understand that capacitive touch screens are capable of recognizing very light touch from a human finger but they do not recognize touch from a stylus.

Resistive touch screens traditionally have not supported multi touch functionality.  Traditionally it has only been capacitive touch screens that would support multi touch.  That is until recently however. Recent advancements in resistive touch screens have made multi touch functionality possible for resistive touch screens.  It is important however that you check the technical specifications of the touch screen  laptop that you are considering purchasing if it has a resistive touch screen to find out if it actually does support multi touch functionality.

There is one thing that I should clear up.  Capacitive touch screens will recognize touch input from an electronic stylus but not from a regular stylus.  If you plan on using your touchscreen laptop to recognize your handwriting and convert your handwriting into text, it’s best to purchase at computer that has the capacitive touch screen and an electronic stylus.

Finding Cheaper Laptops

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

The laptops are one great item that every one wants to own, whether you’re a new mom, business person, or recent high school grad searching through the multitude of cheap laptops for students. They come in many different sizes and configurations. But selecting the best one among many brands is a challenging task and especially when the choice is about buying laptops under 400 dollars.

Fact is that, there are many tactics one can follow in order to get a good purchase considering all the factors and features we desire. There is an ever growing trend and craze regarding the laptops. With newer models making their ways in to the market, the preceding ones are losing their once glorified essence in the industry. Laptops under 400 dollars fall in to this category.

A careful research online will help in knowing about the models of different brands, their price, configuration and packages that comes as a bonus with these. Sometimes, used laptops with better condition can be obtained very cheaply.

Most of us are brand conscious and at such cases we might miss out on the offers provided by the other brands. Keeping that in mind, we can actually save a lot of money and get a laptop at a much cheaper rate. This again should not be by compromising the quality of the product.

Another alternative to save money is by buying various parts from stores and assembling them. We can get the individual parts cheaply as most of them are inexpensive. But, assembling them is a challenge for those who are not well trained or used to hardware mechanisms of a computer/laptop. Hence, this option is feasible enough to be considered in getting a cheaper laptop.

As they say, patience is virtue. We can always wait for a good opportunity for a price deal that happens during some certain seasons. During these times, we can get the best deal on laptops.

The most important rule to be kept in mind is that all laptops may not offer the same satisfaction and their policies differ at different levels. Hence, one should also be prudent enough to make the best choices weighing different options.

Looking for a New Laptop? Check the Online Laptop Reviews

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Buying a laptop is an exciting activity, so much so that it is so easy to purchase the first model that you come across with and which looks fine. In the excitement of the moment, it is so easy to forget that you can actually look around, compare features and prices, and even read laptop reviews before you make a decision. In fact, not a few laptop owners have ended up regretting the last time they bought their laptops impulsively.

It is therefore very important to do your homework when buying a new laptop. It is not as easy as buying clothes, that you can return it instantly if you find that it doesn’t quite fit you. In addition, laptops are also very expensive. Even the thin notebooks are too pricey, and you could end up finding out that what you bought isn’t what you wanted in the first place. That would be just tragic.

So how do you do your homework? One of the things that you can do is to ask around. Consult with friends and families who have purchased laptops and get their insights on the brand and model that they purchased. Is it reliable? Does it serve their purpose? Maybe the newer version or model can also be a good investment for your own purpose.

Another thing that you can do is to look at laptop reviews on the Internet. There is a great online community of tech enthusiasts who are willing to share their thoughts and experiences regarding their purchase. Try looking for websites that publish these reviews. If you are not too technical, look for user reviews that you can relate to, as these discuss the practical side of laptop computing instead of the bits and bytes of it. Some reviews allow their readers to ask questions. So if you need more information, try asking the reviewer for clarification. The Asus G73JH review here is an example of great review that you should check out before buying a laptop.

Another great place to find reviews is forums. Online forums dedicated to gadget will always have threads on laptop reviews. These are more interactive in nature. If you try asking, you will find that the forum members will be quick to answer your questions and try to be of help. So maximize the use of these forums before you head out to buy your new laptop. Finally, also make sure to try out your chosen laptop before paying for it. You need to confirm the reviews that you read for your own good.

Laptop Stands Should Be A Necessity

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Laptops are such a popular addition to all of the technical gadgets that most individuals own. College students have been one of the main buyers of these bundles of joy. The price and size of laptops has substantially decreased over the last decade.

Due to the convenience of being able to take and use them everywhere with or without an internet connection, laptop cafe’s have cropped up in just about every major city. Television advertisements highlight the features, available programs and low prices.

Many have invested in laptop stands in order to enjoy using the device for longer periods of time. One thing most people do not realize is the potential danger of using laptops for extended periods of time. Since the keyboard and screen are not in an optimized position that promotes good computer health, many have experienced hand, eye, neck and back problems.

A desk stand for a laptop should be purchased at the same time the product is brought. To cut down on eye strain, the computer screen should be level with the eyes. If one has to constantly look down to see the laptop screen, neck problems will eventually arise.

It should be some type of warning on the packaging that states it is better to purchase a desk stand with the laptop to cut down on injuries. The stands are not that expense and come in various styles and colors. Plus if you get a laptop cooling stand it also cools down your laptop, keeping it safe on the long term.

Many people spend countless hours on the internet either working or just for enjoyment. In the past, most individuals only used a computer at work and down time at home was normally spent in front of the television. On average, each household has at least one computer that is being used for one or two hours per day.  Therefore, injuries will eventually occur.
