Ever Considered Long Range Wireless?

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

One way to make a wireless network more effective is to use long range WiFi.  Regular adapters and access points, such as those used in laptop computers and home connections, are limited in range and support only an area of approximately 100 square feet.  This is almost one-third of the range it can cover in an open area. This happens because of the many obstacles that absorb the WiFi signal indoors and cause severe power loss as a result. These access points and adapters have weak antennas, also, that are not powerful enough to reach long distances.

It is usually not practical to have multiple access points. Not only do they consume a great deal of power, but if they are incorrectly set up, signals can overlap and create dead spots where there is no availability. Long range WiFi, on the other hand, makes use of high power WiFi adapters such as Ubiquiti WifiStation. Larger and stronger, these antennas detect a wireless signal and spread it further. Although the extra power comes from amplifiers, the power consumed is much less that that used by a supplementary access point. Therefore, these devices are actually less expensive to operate in the long run.

Long  range access points such as Ubiquiti PowerAP N can also be used with directional antennas. This kind of antenna can be pointed toward the direction of the access point that generates connectivity. This focuses the connectivity and blocks out noise from the surrounding area.  As a result, the system is more efficient because the power of the antenna is focused toward the device with which it is linking. This simplifies the system, as well, because connectivity does not rely on intricate network configurations. To improve range and connectivity of a network, long range WiFi is clearly worth consideration. It can provide better reception for less money and may be more easily maintained.

Xbox Live on Windows Phone 7 Has Bugs

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010
Xbox Live has a simple interface on the phone. There are three types of games that can be played. The look and feel of the games is the same as you have been experiencing on your Xbox. While it allows you to play games and have updates on the go, there are variations in your score phone-based scores and the scores on Xbox. Microsoft Windows Phone 7 that now features Xbox Live is currently going through some teething problems. Playing and downloading games is not an issue and is working well but the avatar function and some of the free Xbox features are not running as smooth. Some of the identified problems were as follows:
·         The APN has to be re-entered every time
·         To make the GPS work, registration with Zune is required
·         Occasional crashing of the browser
·         Flash is not supported so online videos cannot be watched

Real-Time Chat with 3d Avatars

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

The old methods of talking over the internet are outdated.  Since they are all based on text, they have a lot of limitations. There is no way to properly communicate the amount of emotion that goes along with the words that are being said. Although video chat is a step up from the traditional methods such as email and instant messaging, it still has a few problems. For example, most video chat programs only allow communication for two people. This is a problem for anyone who wants to talk with more than one of their friends at once.

New Faces and New Friends

One of the wonderful features of 3D avatar games is their ability to make it dead simple to meet new people.  Compared to instant messengers, which limit you to adding people that you already know to a list of friends, these games let you enter topic based chat rooms. These chat rooms are a wonderful way to meet new people and start creating new friends that share similar interests. If you have ever wanted a convenient way to meet new and interesting people from the safety and comfort of your home, 3D avatar games are the perfect solution.

Keeping up with Old Friends

There is no reason that you can’t use this type of game to just keep up with your existing friends. Instead of being limited to chatting with one friend at a time, the chat rooms in 3D avatar games give you the ability to invite all your friends over for a group chat. In these chats you can all talk with each other without the hassles that are involved with instant messengers. Communication with your group of friends becomes much less like communicating over instant messenger and more like talking to each other when you are all in the same room. It is a much more convenient and pleasant way to interact with your friends.

Be Who you Want

3D avatars allow you to personalize your character’s appearance to match your own unique style and taste. You can dress your avatar to wear your favorite outfits. Because you are controlling it, your avatar will act essentially as a virtual version of you. It will acct just as you do, allowing you to be whoever you want to be in the virtual 3D environment. If you’re looking for an escape from reality, this type of game can be a blast.

Microsoft Closing Windows Live Spaces

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Microsoft has taken a bold decision to close Windows Live Spaces and upgrade the bloggers to WordPress as the default blogging software. Thirty million users will experience automatic transferring of their blogs, embedded photos and comments from Live Spaces to the new WordPress blog. The users can also opt for deleting their blog or moving to a blogging service other than WordPress if they so desire. The time for transition is given till March 2011 after which the Windows Live Spaces will be closed permanently down.

When moving to WordPress.com, the domain name might have to be changed especially if it’s something very common as it might be already taken on WordPress. The original themes and designs may be imported using CSS or you can have a new one chosen from a huge variety of the WordPress Themes. With Messenger Connect, you can share updates with Messenger friends very easily. Considering so many factors that make WordPress a great blogging experience, Microsoft thought it was better not to create a competing brand but to let the users move to WordPress in a seamless transition.

WordPress currently hosts about 10 million blogs and 30 million more, if all decide to move to WordPress, would mean more infrastructure requirements for WordPress and a challenging task they are all excited about.

How to Make Money with Google Knol

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Out to threaten all the pedias, Google Knol is picking up a fast response from visitors and writers. “Knol”, as defined by Google, means ‘unit of knowledge’. It is a website created for authors and writers to post and share their expert knowledge on particular topics of their interest. And while doing so, they can earn money from adsense. You can create Knol pages and share your opinions or write product reviews. Biographies, research work, how-to articles or personal experiences can be written about a range of topics including health, medicine, business, entertainment and others.

You can create a page on any topic even if a similar writing already exists. So this results in multiple entries on the same topic by different authors. You can control who can post comments or edit your article. Readers can rate the articles and help to make the content popular. HTML based articles are written on Knol and there is an option of formatting, adding images and tables etc.

Google Knol is an attempt to acknowledge authors and make better use of the web knowledge by organizing it in an enhanced way. There are many attractive and distinguishing features on Google Knol that will increase its popularity. One of these is Google Adsense. Google Knol allows the authors to monetize their content by placing context-relevant Adsense ads. Pages are ranked in the same way all other pages are ranked by Google. Knol pages are not given any special preference.

If you want you earn money from your writings, visit Google Knol and register using your Google email account if you already have one. After signing in, go to “Edit my preferences” and select the “adsense” tab. Google will create a new adsense account if you already do no t have one.

Facebook Login Security

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Facebook goes through all types of measures to make sure that you are the only person who can log into your Facebook account. The only way that someone could log in as you is if you give some one your log in and password, which we do not suggest you do. Or if you use a computer and you leave your account open. It is very important that no matter what computer that you use when you are finished with what ever you are doing on Facebook, make sure that you physically close and exit your account. Do not just push X’ to close your page. That is all that is doing is closing the page. If someone comes in behind you and chooses to go on to Facebook your account will come up unless you physically log out.

You may ask yourself how do I know for sure that I have done this correctly. Your account will close and it will lead you back to the front sign in page that you started out on. When you see that page then you know that you logged out correctly. Facebook works really hard on the sites security to make sure that you and only you sign into your account.

They are always looking for new ways to up grade the security of your Facebook login so that you will feel secure that your account has the privacy level that you set it at. When you open your account they give you the flexibility to set your account to who ever you want to see your stuff. You can set it just to your friends, just for your family, you can even have it where you have the right to see comments and what have that people have made on your open stuff and you give the o.k. or not for it to be allowed on your account. So basically while your keeping your personal information intact on your account, Facebook is working on keeping the site secure and are always coming up with new ideas to keep your account as private as you want it.

The bottom line is that Facebook wants you to feel comfortable on the site so you will want to visit it often. They know that if you do not feel secure that your information is safe that you will not want to get on the site and that is the last thing that they want to see happen.

Internet Explorer 9 is Out to “Beautify the Web”

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

With the launch of Internet Explorer 9 beta, the browser wars are expected to take a fresh start. Microsoft has done wonders creating a user interface that is so sleek, simple and beautiful in the new Internet Explorer. The controls and tabs are much reduced so you can now see more of the web and less of the toolbars.

The reinvented browser features decent support for HTML5 and web standard compliance. IE9 has a much enhanced speed as compared to the previous versions. Even the complex flash or silverlight websites load very quickly.

One of the most remarkable new feature is of “pinned” sites. Now you can pin down your favorite websites separately on the taskbar and can also be bookmarked as ‘applications’ in the operating system. If a site starts to hang, there is no need to close down all tabs. Bing is the default search engine but there are options for installing Google, Wikipedia, Amazon and others.

Rendering Comparison: Internet Explorer 8 vs Internet Explorer 9

The aesthetic additions include color changes of the backwards and forwards button, glass frame and translucent windows.

Microsoft is proud of the new and improved features in Internet Explorer 9 as high ranking and popularity is gained right after the launch last week.
