OH OH OH The Places We’ll Go…..
It was February 2006 in a country style home with a record player soaked with rain in the back driveway. I was inside trying to stay warm. I spent my time in the dining room writing stories from the road on a lap top while just behind me I heard the laughter of Ashley Eriksson and -a as they played fun and beautiful songs. These may or may not have been LAKE songs but soon enough these two talented artists had become a part of the band we know today as LAKE. I typed to the hopeful and heartwarming songs that filled the room. I drank tea and rubbed my arms from the cold.
Fast forward to about 4 months ago. My friend Ryan told me that there was a band called LAKE playing at the Lincoln Square Theater. Over two years since I sat in Ashley’s dining room absorbed in creativity here I was dancing with my Chicago friends turning what seemed like dreams from my past into reality. Their choice of instruments are on the vintage end and their nostaligic grooves create a sound so good that you forget that about what ails. They switched instruments every song and played all of their instruments well. The Line up that I saw consisted of Eli Moore, Ashley, and John Ringhofer (Half Handed Cloud). There are other members in LAKE that I haven’t seen in Chicago but my hopes are up that they will be in full cast when they come to Schubas to play with Vancouver BC’s LADYHAWK on November 18th. At the end of the show I traded cd’s with them and have been lucky enough to spin Oh The Places We’ll Go, their new album, for a few months now. The third release from a band that is truly going places.
Currently they are touring the U.S. but they have also recently been to Europe. If you want to see their current touring schedule go here: click click
The album has grown in my heart as a place of peace. They find their permanent home in my dancing feet, table and thigh drumming hands, and my bobbing head forever. Their lyrics make you think about interactions and the way we treat each other, our friends, family, acquaintances.
The album has influence from Brian Wilson, Jackson Five, Silver Mount Zion, and many more. It’s funky, it’s dreamy, and sometimes cartoony. Their are such a fun band and their songs are timeless.
Oh the Places We’ll Go is for sale at Olympia Washington’s own K records. This is the kind of band I think everyone can get into. Check out all of their side projects as well!
